LIBRARY RECEIVES GRANT FOR INDOOR PLAY STRUCTURE

Southglenn Library, 6972 S. Vine Street, Centennial, recently received a $1,500 grant from the Rotary Club of Centennial, as well as another $1,500 matching grant from the District Rotary, to fund a new indoor play structure for the library. The $3,000 Rotary gift will combine with more than $5,000 already granted by the Friends of the Arapahoe Library District.

Volunteers from the Rotary Club of Centennial helped install the new play structure in the library on January 9, 2010. The piece, entitled, “Magic Mirror Mountain” features a giant M and provides interactive play elements such as moving wooden parts, mirrors and places for preschool-age children to crawl around in and explore.

“This structure, which will eventually be part of a literacy playground at the library, will encourage children, as well as parents and caregivers, to interact using motivating and hands-on learning pieces designed to foster early literacy and language development through play,” said Laurie Christensen, Manager of Southglenn, Castlewood and Koelbel Libraries, and a Rotary Club of Centennial member. “With ALD’s mission to provide a ‘literate and informed community’ and service being a key element of Rotary memberships, this is a win-win partnership for both organizations.”
