Adult Programs August 2010

ESL Conversation Group
ESL conversation group meets every Tuesday from 10:00-11:30 am. The group is open to all who wish to practice their English language skills in a relaxed and informal setting. Topics vary widely, and it is a great learning experience as well as a chance to meet people. Child care is provided.

Job Seekers Support Group
2nd and 4th Wednesdays @ 7pm
During this tough job market, one of the best ways to find a job may be through networking. If you are currently seeking employment or are trying to change careers, we are starting a job-seekers support group here at the library. Join us for a bi-weekly meeting facilitated by a career counselor, which will involve education, resources, support, brainstorming and networking with others.

Celebrate the end of our Summer Reading program with a free outdoor concert by The Sun Messengers, the official band of the Detroit Pistons! Perfect for all ages and generations.

Adult/Teen Paperback Book Swap
Saturday, August 21st 1-4pm
Drop off your used paperbacks at the adult reference desk between Saturday August 14th and Friday August 20th. You will receive a ticket to choose and equal number of books at the book exchange on Saturday the 21st.

August Computer Classes @ OTPL

Computers for Beginners
Learn some basic computer terminology, how to use a keyboard and mouse, and how to begin navigating through Windows XP.

The Internet for Beginners

Learn what programs to use, what all those menus and buttons do, how to navigate from site to site, and some basic Internet terminology.

Thursday, August 5th 10am-noon

Email for Beginners

Learn how to set up and access a free account, send and receive messages, set up an address book, use attachments, organize your inbox using folders, and anything else you want to know. If you don’t have an account, plan on arriving a few minutes early in order to set one up. If you already have an account, make sure you know your provider, user name and password.

Digital Photos for Beginners

Learn how to transfer photos from your camera to your Windows computer, how to organize them, and how to do some simple photo editing. This is a hands on class so be sure to bring your camera and any cables that came along with it.

Tuesday, August 12th 10-11:30am

Introduction to Microsoft Word 2007:

Learn the basics of creating, formatting and editing a simple document using Microsoft Word.

Tuesday, August 17th 2-4pm

Introduction to spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel 2007:

Learn the basics of what spreadsheets are and how to create and use them using Microsoft Excel.

Wednesday, August 18th 10am-noon

Introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint 2007:

Learn how to create and run a simple presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint.

Wednesday, August 18th 1-3pm

Beginning eBay
Create an account on eBay, and learn the basics of buying and selling on this popular site.
